An 87-year-old patient was admitted to the emergency room with abdominal pain in the right iliac fossa, associated with fever and leukocytosis. CT revealed thickening of the cecal wall, which required a differential diagnosis between heteroplasia and inflammation.
Endoscopic examination revealed severely inflamed mucosa with mucopustular discharge from the appendiceal orifice.
The patient was treated clinically with antibiotic therapy, achieving complete resolution of symptoms.
